Oh, hello!

Back in May, I decided to quit my job as a paraprofessional at my son’s school so that we could homeschool. He’d been asking to homeschool all year. I’d also started to have an interest in it.  Last school year was the first year he complained of really not liking school. I loved his teacher. He made straight A’s all year.  It turns out, he just needs something different. We have lots of reasons that led to making our decision to homeschool and I am so thankful to have a husband who is so supportive.

Our official first day is Monday! I have the area in our dining area semi set-up. School supplies and curriculum are ready to go.

Curriculum! Oh yes….that was not at all easy to decide on (especially for someone who suffers from severe indecisiveness…runs in the family). There is a plethora of information out there and it can be extremely overwhelming. I know I was driving my husband crazy for awhile there trying to figure out curriculum.

Thankfully, I kept going back to the same ones. I’m praying we like them and that things go well. I chose Moving Beyond the Page (full package including: Language Arts, S.S., & Science) and Singapore Standards for Math. My son and only child is starting 5th grade this year.

We may also be doing French, casually. I’m using Duolingo to freshen up my French a bit(French is one of many languages they have available) but I also found “The French Experiment” online for my son. Both of those are FREE!

We are also going through a homeschool charter which so far is awesome! We already have 2 field trips set up for September. My son didn’t have an opportunity to attend any field trips at all last school year so THIS is exciting! He’ll have lots of opportunities to socialize and be around other kids his age.

Being that this is our first year, I admit to being nervous, a bit overwhelmed, and feeling like I may not know what I’m doing. But hey…fake it ’til ya make it! Right?  We certainly will see how it goes! I just know that I really want my son to enjoy learning and to experience more. If I can achieve that, then I’ll be really happy with our homeschooling journey and so will he.
